Dreaming of a Winter Wilderness Escape?

6th October 2019

The leaves are turning red and orange, temperatures are dropping and birds are migrating south, which can only mean one thing… it’s nearly winter.

Winter is a wonderful time of year, there are open fires, candlelit dinners and crisp fresh air in abundance. It’s the perfect time to explore the wilds of Scotland by day and nestle down in plush surroundings by night.

Scotland’s stunning scenery gets even more beautiful in the winter and there are a whole host of ways to experience it. One great area to experience Scotland in the winter is the Cairngorms National Park, in the heart of the Scottish Highlands, it has everything from castles and distilleries to amazing wildlife.

Glenfeshie Lodge

If you are travelling as a group then Glenfeshie Lodge is an incredible place to stay. Reachable via a single track road that winds its way through the pine forests, Glenfeshie estate is a 45,000-acre expanse of wild hills, moors and lochs for you to explore. They pride themselves in the rewilding of the local landscape by re-foresting and carefully managing and restoring the land. There are so many things to do, whether you want to participate in high energy activities like mountain biking or hill walking or opt for a more leisurely Landrover tour of the estate. If you’d like to try your hand at shooting or fishing, that can be arranged too.

Landrover Experience

If you are travelling as a couple or in a smaller group then the Fife Arms in Braemar is the perfect place to do just that. Its unique style and otherworldly homeliness is a very welcome sight at the end of a day of adventuring.

It’s no wonder that the Cairngorms are a favourite place for the royal family to spend their holidays. The views really are fit for a queen. In the snow the cairngorms transform into a winter wonderland, with three of Scotland’s five ski resorts located here, there is a real culture for winter sports in these mountains. We love getting out into the wild in winter, as long as there’s a nice warm place to dine in at the end of the day.

There are a whole host of ways to experience Scotland’s stunning winter scenery. For example, we can organise private 4×4 experiences in the snow for you to take in the sights whilst enjoying an exhilarating off-road ride, get the keys to ancient castles so that you can explore them in private, or if seeing Scotland from the air is something you’ve always dreamed of, let us know and we can organise an exclusive helicopter ride for you.
