World Whisky Day lies on the 3rd Saturday of May, and while it is officially a one-day celebration, we have had whisky on the brain all month. This year, to mark the occasion, we wanted to share with you a selection of scenic whisky distilleries alongside some activities and accommodations nearby.
Raasay Distillery
Raasay Distillery, found on the picturesque Isle of Raasay in the Inner Hebrides, offers a unique whisky experience that blends stunning natural beauty with innovative spirit craftsmanship. As the first legal distillery on the island, Raasay Distillery is committed to producing single-malt that captures the essence of its rugged surroundings. Ardnamurchan Distillery
Ardnamurchan Distillery, located on the Ardnamurchan Peninsula in the West Highlands, blends tradition and innovation in its whisky production. Established in 2014, this eco-friendly distillery is dedicated to crafting premium whisky using traditional methods, sustainable practices, and locally sourced ingredients. The distillery’s commitment to environmental stewardship is evident in its use of renewable energy sources, including hydroelectric power and biomass heating. The Glenturret
The Glenturret Distillery, nestled in the scenic Perthshire countryside, is celebrated as Scotland’s oldest working distillery, with a heritage dating back to 1763. Renowned for its traditional whisky-making techniques, Glenturret uses centuries’ worth of knowledge and craftsmanship to produce some of the finest single malts.
The distillery also boasts the two-Michelin-starred Glenturret Lalique Restaurant, where guests can savour gourmet cuisine, beautifully paired with extraordinary whiskies. With only 7 tables, the restaurant has a wonderfully intimate feeling. The tasting menu features exquisite Scottish flavours and dishes inspired by the Glenturret.
Royal Lochnagar
Royal Lochnagar Distillery, nestled at the foot of the Cairngorm Mountains near Balmoral Castle is steeped in royal history and tradition. Founded in 1845, the distillery gained its prestigious “Royal” title after a visit from Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in 1848. Known for its small-scale, handcrafted approach to whisky making, Royal Lochnagar produces a limited amount of high-quality single-malt Scotch whisky each year.
The Cairngorms’s ancient forests, rolling hills and crystal-clear rivers are the perfect playground for outdoor enthusiasts. The national park is home to a diverse array of wildlife, including red squirrels, golden eagles, and the elusive Scottish wildcat. Strathisla
Strathisla Distillery, located in the heart of Speyside in Keith, Scotland, is renowned as one of the most idyllic distilleries in the country. Established in 1786, Strathisla is celebrated for its charming, traditional architecture, including its iconic twin pagodas and stone buildings set amidst lush gardens and the River Isla. As the home of Chivas Regal, Strathisla produces rich and complex single malt whisky that is one of the key flavours in the Chivas blend.

Johnstons of Elgin, established in 1797, is one of Scotland’s most prestigious textile manufacturers, renowned for its impeccable cashmere production. Visitors to the Johnstons of Elgin mill can see for themselves the intricate process of taking raw cashmere fibres all the way to the finished garment, with tours showcasing techniques such as dyeing, carding, weaving, and more. The mill produces a wide range of high-quality items, including scarves, blankets, and clothing.
